Danielle Lomeli named May Nurse of the Month

Danielle Lomeli. a registered nurse at SSM Health St. Atnhony Hospital- Shawnee, has been named Nurse of the Month for May as part of program sponsored by The Shawnee News-Star and the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.
Lomeli has worked in the Joyful Beginnings Women’s Center for 12 years.
“I grew up in the area and still currently reside here. I attended Bethel Schools until high school when I transferred and graduated from Tecumseh High school in 2006,” she said, adding she then attended Seminole State College and obtained her associate degree in science of nursing.
“Nursing has been my career of choice for as long as I can remember. Not only do I have multiple family members who are in the nursing profession, but I also have always found joy in caring for others,” she said. ” I enjoy being able to give back to my community by caring for them while they have some of the biggest moments in their lives.”
Additionally, she said, “Bringing a family’s newest addition into this world is a feeling unlike anything else. I am so blessed to be able to do that each week right here in the community that I grew up in. It is so rewarding to forever be a part of that family and child’s journey, even more so when it happens to be a friend or coworker.”
Lomeli has been married for 13 years to husband Shane. They have two children – Sicilie and Lukas.

The Shawnee News-Star wants to give back to those who work in this noble profession. Each month from April 2024 through March 2025, The Shawnee News-Star, with the support of Citizen Potawatomi Nation, will recognize one local nurse as Nurse of the Month. The honoree receives a front-page story in The News-Star and a $100 Visa Gift Card.

From those 12, one nurse will be selected in April 2025 as The Shawnee News-Star’s Nurse of the Year, an award that comes with a $500 cash prize.
