Community Market awarded nearly $168K Avedis grant

Avedis Foundation has awarded Community Market of Pottawatomie County (CMPC) a grant for $167,525 to help the organization continue to combat food insecurity in the area – a battle it has been fighting since 2016.

“Avedis Foundation is proud to support CMPC with this grant,” Avedis Foundation President and CEO Dr. Kathy Laster said. “(CMPC Executive Director) Daniel Matthews, his dedicated staff, and the board of directors are truly invested in identifying areas of need for their clients and being a part of the solution.”

With the support of this grant from Avedis Foundation, CMPC will continue to operate its seven programs that are not only feeding area residents but equipping them to be successful with the goals they have for their lives.

As the state’s largest food and resource center, CMPC has distributed more than 20 million pounds of food to food-insecure families over the past eight years, while serving an average of more than 500 new individuals a month.

Laster said CMPC works to build strong partnerships with other nonprofit organizations and to find alternative funding sources for its programs while serving its mission to feed the hungry in the community.

“Time and time again the Avedis Foundation demonstrates its incredible commitment to ending food insecurity in our community,” CMPC Executive Director Daniel Matthews said. “By serving the hungry of today, and working to prevent hunger tomorrow, this partnership allows us to impact thousands of lives across our region.”

He said the foundation for friends and neighbors to make better lives for themselves and their families begins with the security of having food on the table.

“Avedis makes sure this happens across our community,” Matthews said.

CMPC strives to meet the needs of their guests in a way that produces positive health outcomes and increases quality and length of life. Of the families served in education classes and programs, positive feedback on health numbers was reportedly 83 percent.
