  • From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. is the LOCO Model Train Rides, By Locomotive Operators of Central OK. Ride 1/8 scale locomotives right outside of Shawnee Twin Lakes. Locomotive Operators of Central Oklahoma (LOCO) is open for public runs at 29626 Lake Dr., McLoud.
  • From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. is the VFC Christmas Tree Lighting at 2301 E. Highland. There will be food trucks; holiday inflatables; a petting zoo; pony rides; fire pits and S’mores station; photos with the Grinch; and kids’ holiday crafts.

December 4 (Wednesday)

  • From 9 a.m. to noon in the lobby of the Shawnee Public Library in downtown Shawnee, OESC’s Disabled Veteran’s Outreach Program (DVOP) Specialist Dru Tischer is available for veterans who need employment services and may have trouble getting to the Workforce Center. This service is provided at this location on the first Wednesday each month.

December 5 (Thursday)

  • Pottawatomie County OHCE (Oklahoma Home and Community Education) is offering a Craft Workshop –Bring a friend or friends and enjoy having fun discovering the answers at our “Holiday in a Jar” workshop. You will enjoy snacks and mocktails while creating your take home “Gift in a Jar” creation. We have reserved two times for the workshop: 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the OSU Extension Office, at 14001 Acme Road, in Shawnee. The cost of the workshop is $15/person.   • From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., is the Southside Christmas Festival at Higher ground Church, Fellowship Hall, 214 W. Farrall. Bring your family to the event that will features kids’ games,a baked potato meal, kids’ meals, popcorn, cake walk, BINGO, and a Christmas market.
  • At 7 p.m. begins a Christmas Concert for Salvation Army Angel Tree at the Historic Ritz Theater, at 10 W. Main Street.

  • The Sine Nomine Choral Society of Central Oklahoma, Shawnee’s community choir, will present its Christmas concert, “A Christmas Gift,” at 3 p.m., at Heritage Church, 10th and Union, in Shawnee. The program is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.

December 9 (Monday)

  • At Epic Snocones at 722 S. Beard, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., friends are gathering at the gazebo to sing Christmas carols along the streets in Dunbar Community. Bringing joy, cheers, and goodwill to our friends and neighbors.
