The City of Shawnee on Monday announced the appointment of Seth Barkhimer as Interim Assistant City Manager.
Barkhimer has been an integral part of the City’s leadership team since 2020 when he was hired as the Director of Engineering.
In this role, he played a key role in the construction of the Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant, ARPA Water and Sewer Line projects, the Fire Station 3 Remodel, Main Street Bridge, and many others. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Oklahoma State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer and Certified Floodplain Manager.
“We are confident that Seth will provide steady leadership during this transition period and continue to advance the City’s initiatives,” said Mark Simpson, Interim City Manager.
As Director of Engineering and newly appointed Interim Assistant City Manager, Barkhimer will continue to work closely with the Interim City Manager and other department heads to implement the City’s strategic initiatives, manage daily operations, and drive continuous improvement across all city services.
“I am honored to step into this role and continue working to enhance services and opportunities for the people of Shawnee,” Barkhimer said. “I look forward to continued collaboration with City staff and community stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition and continued progress.”
Barkhimer’s appointment to fill this post was needed after Simpson, who previously served as the city’s Assistant City Manager, was appointed by the Shawnee City Commission on Jan. 28 to serve as interim city manager. Previous City Manager Andrea Weckmueller-Behringer resigned on January 22.
