Pioneer Library System's grant monies to enhance community walking music trail in Tecumseh

TECUMSEH – Music is the universal language and that could not be more important than now. For anyone who wants to experience something fun, Pioneer Library System will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, April 4 at 2 p.m. to celebrate an extension to the Tecumseh community’s Music Trail at Tecumseh City Park.

The original half-mile StoryWalk® location for Tecumseh Public Library was established at the southern end of Tecumseh City Park. Avedis Foundation installed another half-mile trail at the north end of the city park. This northern loop is where Pioneer Library System has established their Music Trail. There has been a Cavatina, a Songbook, a pair of Conga Drums, and a Calypso Quatro Post installment, made possible by a Health Literacy grant from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and the Institute of Museum and Library Science, received in 2023.

A second installation has been made possible by a memorial gift from the Barbara Robinson family of $10,000 and an additional $3,500 grant from the Pioneer Library System Foundation. This installment is called the Inspired by Nature Ensemble, also from Percussion Play. It has three instruments, called Liberty Bells, Sunflower Petal Drum, and Harmony Bells (photos provided).

Barbara Robinson was a life-long library user, and a long-time Friend of the Tecumseh Public Library, and she loved band music too. She completed the library’s StoryWalk® at the park in 2021 when she was 90 years old, and she was presented with a Reading Medal that she loved dearly (photo provided).

The third installation has been funded by another Health Literacy grant from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and the Institute of Museum and Library Science. It includes a small Babel Drum and Rainbow Chimes (photos provided).
