The Salvation Army celebrates 'Christmas in July' with bell ringing in Shawnee

SHAWNEE – The familiar sound of bells have returned to Shawnee this summer as The Salvation Army hosts a special “Christmas in July” Red Kettle Campaign. Collections began Thursday, July 24, and continue through Saturday, July 26, at Walmart in Shawnee.
With the theme “Need Knows No Season,” this event reminds us that our neighbors’ needs don’t take a summer break.
“While many associate The Salvation Army with the holidays, we are here year-round to help those facing crisis,” said Captain Thomas Marion, The Salvation Army of Shawnee “In the summer months, families are especially vulnerable, with children home from school, food needs increasing, and utility bills rising higher than ever.”
Summer can be especially tough for those already facing difficulties. Many families live paycheck to paycheck and are just one unexpected event away from hardship. Utility shutoffs, food insecurity, and housing instability remain serious concerns, even on sunny days.
Funds raised during “Christmas in July” will directly support local families in Shawnee with emergency assistance, basic needs, and services.
Community members are invited to stop by, say hello, and support the cause by donating to the kettle. Every gift, no matter how small, helps bring hope to someone in need.
