  • A new art exhibit is now on display at Oklahoma Baptist University’s Julie Marks Blackstone Gallery, featuring a series of works in various mediums by Oklahoma Baptist University’s Associate Professor of Art, Joshua S. Brunet. Titled, Fly,” the works are inspired by the Peter and the Starcatchers book series by Ridley Pearson and Dave Barry, and tell the story of Peter Pan’s legendary beginnings. The public is invited to view the free exhibit, which runs through Oct. 31. The Julie Marks Blackstone Gallery, at Oklahoma Baptist University, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.   • (CANCELED — to resume Nov. 5) — From 9 a.m. to noon, OESC’s Disabled Veteran’s Outreach Program (DVOP) Specialist Dru Tischer is available at the new veterans museum to assist veterans who need employment services and may have trouble getting to the Workforce Center. Services include: a comprehensive assessment, identifying each client’s barriers, education, skills, needs, and goals; employment assistance; education/training assistance; job search assistance; resume assistance; supportive service referrals, like offering referrals to agencies like SNAP, TANF, VA Claims, VR&E, housing, and vet centers; Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC), a Federal tax credit for employers hiring from targeted populations with employment barriers; and Federal Bonding, reducing employment barriers for justice-involved individuals re-entering the workforce. The Pottawatomie County Veterans Museum is inside the former Carnegie Library building, on Broadway just south of the Veterans Memorial at Woodland Park. This service is provided at this location on the first Wednesday each month.
  • At 9 a.m. is an Ambassadors Committee Meeting (Location to be determined). Shawnee Forward’s Chamber Ambassadors are a dedicated group of volunteers who play a vital role in promoting and supporting the local business community. These ambassadors serve as the welcoming committee for new members, assist with ribbon cuttings, and represent Shawnee Forward at various events. By fostering connections and providing valuable resources, the Chamber Ambassadors enhance member engagement and contribute to the overall economic vitality of Shawnee.   • From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the Junior Service League of Shawnee will host its Kickoff Supper. This event is $10 per person and will take place outside of Jim Thorpe Stadium before the Wolves kick off at 7 p.m. Tickets include a BBQ sandwich dinner, fun and games.
  • Beginning at 7 p.m. is Jim Thorpe Night at the Shawnee Wolves football game, an evening honoring Native American heritage and tradition.
  • Free Movie Night begins at 7 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 39307 W. MacArthur, in Shawnee. Join us for a fun night of movies, popcorn and pop, all for free. There are two great movies to choose from: “5,000 BLANKETS,” inspired by a remarkable true story filled with hope and highlights the power of family and faith.
