North Rock Creek registers road sweep of Shawnee

The North Rock Creek Lady Cougars scorched the nets in the opening quarter to set the tone and the NRC boys pulled away by outscoring Shawnee in the second through fourth periods in sweeping the Lady Wolves and Wolves Saturday in a noisy and nearly full house at the SHS Performing Arts and Athletic Center.

The NRC girls claimed a 59-46 decision while the Cougars were 61-53 winners over Shawnee in the boys’ contest.

North Rock Creek 59, Shawnee 46 (Girls)

The Class 4A 10th-ranked Lady Cougars (17-3) placed four starters – Kadence Munn, Peyton Lilley, Morgan Campbell and Addisen Lawrence – in double figures in clipping the Lady Wolves.

NRC converted 8-of-11 shots in the first quarter alone in doubling up Shawnee 22-11.

The Lady Wolves (14-6) opened up an 11-2 run to start the second but the Lady Cougars closed the second period with six straight points off a 3-pointer each from Lilley and Morgan Campbell for a 30-22 halftime advantage.

Shawnee was unable to make a deep cut into the deficit in the second half as NRC kept the Lady Wolves at a distance.

Munn led the way with a game-high 18 points as she was 8-of-11 from the floor to go with four rebounds for the Lady Cougars.

Lilley and Morgan Campbell each tallied 12 as Lilley was 4-of-7 shooting from the field with three treys and five boards and Morgan Campbell went 3-of-7 with two 3-pointers.

Addisen Lawrence, who tallied 10 points for NRC, also canned a pair of treys and ended up with four assists and four steals.

Sarah Campbell had a big night on the boards as she pulled down 10 rebounds to go with her seven points as she rounded out the scoring.

The Lady Cougars shot 48.8% from the field overall for the game while Shawnee hit just 40.8% of its attempts.

The Lady Wolves’ Josie Megehee struggled with her shot in the first half, but was 5-of-10 in the second half in finishing with 16 points as she also grabbed six rebounds, totaled three steals and blocked a

shot. She also finished 4-of-6 from the foul line.

The only other double-digit scorer for Shawnee was reserve Karma Mason with 12 points as she was 5-of-7 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line.

Rounding out the Lady Wolves’ scoring were Chrishelle Milum with eight points, five boards and a pair of assists. Daley Rice and Tatyanna Thierry chipped in five points apiece as each drained one 3-point shot.

Tarilyn Thierry didn’t get into the scoring column but snatched nine rebounds, assisted on two baskets and recorded a pair of steals in a losing effort.

North Rock Creek 61, Shawnee 53 (Boys)

The two teams battled to a 9-all draw through one quarter before the 4A fourth-ranked Cougars gradually pulled away, sparked by a 13-8 second period.

NRC (17-2) shot 51.4% for the game while the Wolves (11-11) hit just 34% of their tries.

Caleb Hawkins nailed 8-of-11 shots from the floor with one trey while sinking 5-of-7 free throws in finishing with a game-high 22 points for the Cougars.

Teammate Memphis Burdine tossed in 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting with two 3-point connections and six boards. He was also 5-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Cason Coomer followed with eight points, including two treys, to go with five rebounds for NRC. Jace Plumb ended up with seven points as he was 7-of-8 from the foul line. Kohen Warden tacked on five points, six boards and a pair of assists. J.J. McClain and Tyson Hawkins each contributed two points to complete the Cougar scoring.

Three reached double figures for Shawnee with Edan Litherland and Aidon Siqueiros tallying 16 apiece while Daytain Patton finished with 14, 12 of which came in the second half.

Litherland connected on three of the Wolves’ 3-point baskets and also snatched four rebounds in the process. Siqueiros was 6-of-13 from the field and 4-of-5 from the line while pulling down nine boards.

Rah’mel Slaughter was the only other Shawnee player to score as he tossed in seven points while registering two assists, two steals and a pair of rebounds.

The Wolves were 13-of-16 (82%) from the free-throw stripe while NRC was 18-of-25 (72%).

The Cougars led 22-17 at halftime and 41-34 through three quarters before holding a 20-19 edge in the fourth.

Both Shawnee teams play at Claremore Tuesday and at Tuttle Thursday before hosting Tulsa Hale on Friday. NRC hosts Jones Tuesday and plays at Ardmore on Feb. 18.
