Patrick Frank Akerman, Jr., of Guthrie passed away on March 5, 2022 at the age of 90. Patrick was born on April 3, 1931 at Sacred Heart (near Konawa) to Patrick Frank Akerman, Sr., and Lucy Mae (Canfield) Akerman. He grew up in Shawnee and graduated from Saint Benedict High School.
Patrick married Peggy Reynolds of Shawnee and they were blessed with three children. They were married for 60 years until Peggy’s death. Patrick served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received special recognition as a marksman.
Patrick had a long and successful career in the supermarket business as a produce specialist. He began his career at Humpty-Dumpty supermarket in Shawnee as a teenager working in the produce department. He finished his career as a regional buyer of produce at Fleming Company.
Patrick retired from work but not from fishing. He and Peggy spent many hours at local lakes fishing for crappie and catfish. Before moving to Guthrie, they lived at their lakefront home on Lake Texahoma. He also had other hobbies over the years including gardening, carpentry, boating, hunting, reading, outdoor cooking and helping any neighbor in need of a handyman.
He was known for his quick wit, fair treatment of everyone, random acts of kindness and his belief in Jesus Christ as his Savior. Patrick made friends easily and was particularly fond of his exceptional neighbors and friends in Guthrie.
Survivors include his daughter Connie Joanne Akerman of Edmond; son Timothy Loyd Akerman and his wife Tina of Edmond; a daughter-in-law, Peggi Akerman of Florida; grandchildren, Patrick III, Rachael, Matthew and Hansen. He is also survived by one sister Dorothy Harmand of Roland; brothers Bob Akerman of Bella Vista, AR; Charles Akerman of Shawnee; Jerry Akerman of Shawnee; and Edward Akerman of McDonough, GA; and many very close and dear relatives and friends.
Patrick was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Akerman; son Ricky Akerman; grandson Rick; his parents; a sister Gloria Trice; and brothers Albert Akerman and James Akerman.
A memorial service will be held at the Noble Avenue Baptist Church in Guthrie on Monday, March 28, 2022, at 1:00 p.m.
