Leroy “Brother” Downs Jr. passed from this Earth on June 14, 2022 in Oklahoma City, OK. Leroy was born September 15, 1951 in Pawnee, OK to Leroy Downs Sr, and Jenny Lou (Keys) Downs. Leroy was raised by his maternal grandparents Walter and Nora Keys; his Aunt June and Uncle Bruce EchoHawk; and Uncle Basil and Aunt Chita Chapman in Pawnee, OK.

Leroy graduated from Pawnee High School in 1970 where he played football and ran cross country for the Pawnee Black Bears. Leroy graduated with his Bachelors in Business from St. Gregory’s University in 2011.

He worked as a supervisor at TDK for 23 years and then as the Health Director at the Kickapoo Tribal Health Center.

Leroy loved coaching and watching his son play sports, even playing adult softball with his son, and as the years went on he enjoyed watching his three grandsons play sports coached by his son.

Leroy loved taking road trips to watch OU football games with his family and attended every home game with his family.

Leroy and Debra Rolette were married on May 29, 1976 in Shawnee, OK where they spent their life raising their son. Leroy was extremely proud of his son and three grandsons. He always enjoyed having dinner with his family after every sporting event and special occasions. He enjoyed going to the movies with his wife and eating popcorn.

Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and aunts & uncles.

Leroy is survived by his wife Debra of Shawnee; son Che’, wife Crystal, and grandchildren Cayden, Camden, and Cooper of Moore; brother Cecil Downs, sisters Jenell, and Wanda Downs all of Shawnee, and a host of numerous family members and friends.

A viewing will be held Thursday June 16 at Resthaven Funeral Home from 4-8 pm in Shawnee, OK. A celebration service will be at 10:00 am on Friday, June 17 at Liberty Baptist Church (711 E. Federal), Shawnee, OK followed by graveside burial at Resthaven Memorial Park.
