As Americans gear up for the Primary elections June 18, it is also election day for several local, county and state positions up for voter decision.
New terms are open for Shawnee mayor and City Commission seats in wards 2, 3 and 4, as well as Pottawatomie County races for sheriff, court clerk, county clerk and County Commission District 2. Terms opening for area legislative offices include local Senate District 17, and House Districts 26, 27 and 28. Also, the Town of Bethel Acres had a couple candidates hoping to serve in ward seats.
April 3-5 was the official candidate filing period, recording many area hopefuls who have chosen to campaign for a post.
Five candidates garnered no competition to win seats unopposed – Shawnee City Commission Ward 4, Pottawatomie County Court Clerk, Bethel Acres Ward 2 and Bethel Acres Ward 4, as well as Oklahoma House District 27.

Voting
The election is June 18. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The deadline for voter registration to vote in the June 28 election is May 24.
The deadline for an absentee ballot request is June 3.
Early voting starts June 13 and 14, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and June 15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Runoff primary elections are set for Aug. 27.
