Ladies of the Red Hat Society of Oklahoma will merge April 26 at the Shawnee Mall for their sixth annual event. The day begins at 9 a.m. with welcome and registration and concludes with an awards ceremony at 3:30 p.m.
Connie Hermin, the Queen Mum of the Shawnee Sugarplums (the local chapter of the Red Hat Society) said she expects between 250-300 guests and representation from 20-25 Red Hat Chapters.
Participants will take part in several competitions,  including wagon decorating and home made cake decorating. “These ladies are terribly competitive,” Hermin said.
Other events feature plain red hat decorating and a demonstration from Leslie Deer, a Fancy Shawl Dancer from Citizen’s Pottawatomie Nation.
Hermin said the event exists to stimulate Shawnee’s economy and provide a way for ladies 50 plus to enjoy one another’s company. Anyone may watch the event.
