Shawnee’s girls will carry a 6-5 record into tonight’s Class 5A soccer state playoffs.
The Lady Wolves, who clinched the playoff berth with 3-2 win at Collinsville last Tuesday night, will face host Tulsa Washington tonight.
Tulsa Washington is 12-4 and ranked second. Shawnee is ranked 15th.
“This is pretty much who we expected to play,” Shawnee head coach Justin McCain said. “They are always a quality team, but it is definitely a winnable game.
“Generally, they have five to six solid club players and some good athletes. It should be a hard-fought battle but it should come down to whoever wants it the most.”
Tulsa Washington moved from 6A to 5A prior to the season while Claremore moved into a 6A slot.
Seven other 5A first-round matchups are set for tonight: Lawton McArthur at Deer Creek, Ada at Guthrie, Noble at Carl Albert, Northwest Classen at Durant, Coweta at Bixby, Catoosa at Tulsa Kelley and Skiatook at Tulsa Edison.
The second round is slated for Friday with the semifinals set for Tuesday, May 6. The championship game will be May 10 at the University of Tulsa.
