Outgoing Gov. Brad Henry will discuss his opposition to a state ballot question that would dramatically boost funding for education in Oklahoma.

Henry will speak Wednesday to the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber, one of several groups opposing the measure.

The term-limited Democrat has long been a supporter of public education, but has been vocal opponent of State Question 744. He says approval of the measure would wreak financial havoc on the rest of state government.

The proposed constitutional amendment would require the state within three years to meet the regional average of per-student spending in six surrounding states.

Estimates on how much the proposal would cost the state over the next three years range from about $900 million to $1.7 billion.
