Tom Lankford, 54, of Shawnee, died Oct. 27, 2010, in Shawnee.
He was born May 8, 1956, to Geneva and Tom Lankford in Abilene, Texas.
Tom grew up in Shawnee until the age of 14, when he and his family moved to Winfield, Ala., where he graduated from high school in 1974. He served as a recruiter for the Army National Guard in Alabama. He also lived in Wichita Falls, Texas, and Laurel, Miss., before settling with his wife and stepsons in McLoud, where he lived until recently moving back to Shawnee. Tom worked as a commercial painter, singer and songwriter. He wrote and recorded two original albums. He enjoyed singing and live performance entertaining at concerts and music festivals. Singing, songwriting, collaboration and the guitar were his true calling and passion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Jay Lankford Jr.
Although divorced, he and Mary Lankford remained true friends and companions.
He is survived by his brother, Jay Lankford of Wichita Falls; step-sons, Michael Mays and wife, Misty, and Darrell Collier; two grandchildren, Jonathon Long and Emily White, both of McLoud; aunts, Anita Campbell of Seminole and Rosa Brewer of Pampa, Texas; uncle and aunt, Raymond and Onadean Atkinson; cousins, Elaine Maxey Holliday and Reba Maxey, both of Shawnee; as well as many other family and friends.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating.
