Claire (McIver) Svec, 89, of Shawnee, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, in Edmond.
Claire (McIver) Svec was born March 26, 1922, in Odessa, Texas, the daughter of Gerald Ivan McIver and Margaret (Eldredge) McIver Walker. She attended high school and Murray State College in Tishomingo.
On Dec. 15, 1945, she married Louis Svec in Queens, N.Y.
She spent most of her life working in the home, but during WWII she worked for Douglas Aircraft in Oklahoma City and Chicago.
Claire enjoyed cooking, church activities, reading and traveling. She has lived in Shawnee since 1952.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Olen Walker; her husband; brothers, O.S. (killed in action over France in WWII), Jack, Van, and Michael McIver; and sister, Mary Geraldine Cheatham.
Survivors include four children, Robert Louis Svec and wife, Dr. Patricia Fenderson, of Ft. Worth, Texas, Michael Charles Svec and wife, Elaine, of Edmond, Suzanne Thweatt and husband, Richard, of Helena, Mont., and Kathy Jane Shahan and husband, Bob, of Shawnee; four grandchildren, Aspen Bessinger and husband, Josh, of Yukon, Lace Svec of Statesboro, Ga., Anastasia Svec of Edmond, and Marietta Coldwell and husband, Chad, of Edmond; two great-grandchildren, Lillian Claire Bessinger of Yukon and Liv Elaine Coldwell of Edmond; two brothers, Pat McIver of San Diego, Calif., and William McIver of Fayetteville, Ark.; two sisters, Loutrell Williams of Pryor and Gaynell Fabiszewski of Pilot Point, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28, at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Chris Talley officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Carl Briggs, Jim Buford, Chad Caldwell, Gary Cartwright and Richard Dawson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kelsey Briggs Foundation or Child Abuse Response and Evaluation (C.A.R.E.) Center,
Walker Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
