Shawnee Police Chief Russell Frantz said police are still following leads in the case; no arrests have been made.

The shooting occurred Monday night in the 1200 block of East Alice.

Javaughn Maurice Smith, 25, was shot multiple times in the torso and face, the chief said. At last check, he was in critical but stable condition at an Oklahoma City hospital, where he was reported to be on the road to recovery following surgery.

Frantz said Smith was shot near his residence. At some point during whatever unfolded there, Smith apparently tried backing out of his driveway in his car.

When police arrived, they found him injured in his vehicle, which was in the ditch, the chief said. Police are investigating a possible motive for the shooting as they search for suspects.
