St. Gregory’s senior Tiphani Funk turned in her second consecutive kill-dig double-double, but the Cavaliers fell, 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-14, 25-22), to No. 20 Oklahoma Baptist Saturday at W.P. Wood Field House. The meeting was the last regular-season Sooner Athletic Conference match-up between the Shawnee schools.

Funk tied for team-high honors with 13 kills and added 11 digs. She had 16 and 12 in Friday night’s win at Southwestern Christian. Maggie Lasater totaled 31 assists, while Daniella Rivera tied for game-high honors with 24 digs.

Reigning SAC Setter of the Week Ezgi Guney finished four off a career high with 52 assists for OBU. Three Lady Bison totaled double-digit kills, led by Lacey Herbert’s 17.

OBU (19-7, 9-1 SAC) never trailed in taking the first set, 25-14. The Lady Bison hit .341 in the frame compared to .171 for the home team.

St. Gregory’s battled back in the second, though, breaking a 22-all tie by scoring three of the set’s final four points. Funk had a kill from Lasater during that stretch. It was the Cavs’ first set win over OBU in more than six years.

The Lady Bison turned the momentum quickly in third, scoring 10 of the first 14 points. Up 13-7, the visitors put it away with an 8-1 run.

The fourth set featured 15 ties and five lead changes. The match-defining moment came late with the score tied at 19. OBU took control by scoring four consecutive points to go up 23-19 and held the Cavs at arms-length from there. Carey Strong totaled three of her eight kills during the critical run.

The Cavs pulled to within 23-21 after a put-away by Kileigh Swinton, but OBU scored two of the match’s final three points to end it.

St. Gregory’s (6-17, 2-8 SAC) resumes play Tuesday night at home against Texas Wesleyan. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at W.P. Wood Field House.
