Staff was authorized to apply for an Avedis Foundation grant for a splash pad at Boy Scout Park during the Monday night Shawnee City Commission meeting.

The approval means the city will move forward with the $200,000 request, which counts for approximately half of the total project cost.

Director of Operations James Bryce said the city is aiming for the splash pad to be available for Summer 2015.

Commission also passed a resolution of support for the Avedis Foundation and partnership relating to the Community Renewal International Pilot Program. The program is designed to rejuvenate neighborhoods by reestablishing relationships.

The meeting included acknowledgement of the November sales tax report.

Cindy Sementelli, finance director and city treasurer, reported the November sales tax check received this month was $1,374,143, down $125,040 over November of 2013.

“Last November we had a one-time contribution of $100,000,” Sementelli explained. “So in reality, we were only down about $25,000.”
