Ready. Set. Glow. Avedis Foundation Health Week kicks off May 23 with Shawnee Splash’s grand opening. Concluding the festive affair is an illuminated May 30 family fun run and 5K.

Organizer John Ayers gave insight to the Glow Run environment.

“We’re going to have food vendors and we’re going to have a tent with black lights in it to have your photograph taken, all glowed up. Is that a word,” he questioned jokingly.

Participants are encouraged to show up to the event, located at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center, decorated, though paint will be available.

“If they want to glow paint their face, we’ll have the stuff for them to do that,” Ayers said, adding prizes will be awarded to the brightest and best attire.

A disc jockey will be on site to amplify the evening.

“It’s real upbeat and fun. It’s just going to be a big party atmosphere,” Ayers explained. “Because with all the glow stuff, it just says silliness. That’s going to be the goal.”

The 5K entry fee is $20 until May 23, when it increases to $25. Awards will be given to the top three males and females in 14 different age groups. The cost for the 9 p.m. 5K includes a T-shirt.

“The family fun run is free and that’s like a mile,” Ayers said, noting the 9:05 p.m. fun run includes a T-shirt while supplies last.

Glow tunnels will further embellish the night.

“It’s going to be the coolest thing ever,” Ayers said.
