The saying “patience is a virtue” is constantly in the back of mind, reminding me daily that I need to strive for patience.

From a young age, children learn to be impatient; they constantly want attention, or getting upset because things are going their way.

In our society today, people have become accustomed to being impatient.

A long line in the coffee shop or not receiving a text back immediately has contributed to the impatience of individuals today.

Even in my twenties, I continue to struggle with patience.

Patience in any situation can be aggravating.

The shoes that I have been waiting for months still not in my size, a line in the grocery store or even sitting at a traffic light drives me crazy.

I yearn for patience in my everyday life, but how is it so hard to obtain?

As I get older I realize I need to continue to work on patience.

It never gets easier, but if I slowly work on it, I can build a tolerance to become more patient.

Patience teaches us a lesson, one we may not like, but that there is a reason for everything.

If you missed the light, stop and take a look at the scenery around you.

Oklahoma has some of the prettiest sights you will ever see in the nation, including the breathtaking sunsets.

So instead of getting angry or yelling at the light, be in awe of the state you live in.

Sometimes we are dead set on following the plans or schedule we have set out for ourselves that we forget to enjoy the little moments in between.

Those moments are the times we find our true selves and should admire the most.

We live in a fast-paced environment that it’s nice to take it slow and be patient.

Next time when you are in a situation you find yourself being impatient, take a step back, take a deep breath and remember there is a reason for everything.

It may take days, months or years before you know what that reason is, but know you are in the exact moment for a reason.

You are an example to those around you, so if you show them patience is a virtue and it is easy to obtain, do it.

The more we can grow to become patient, the easier it will be to handle unexpected situations.
