Claude D’Wain Carthen, 56, of Shawnee, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 4, 1958, in Shawnee to George and Inez (Brown) Carthen.

He graduated from Macomb High School and attended Oklahoma State University.

On April 30, 1983, he married Donna (May).

He worked 31 years for General Motors before retiring.

He enjoyed basketball, fishing, gardening, and playing dominos.

He was a member of St. Johns Baptist Church and the United Auto Workers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Carthen.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Carthen of the home; two children, Michelle Osburn and husband Kelly of Roland and Claude D’Wain Carthen II and wife Jessica of Tulsa; grandchildren, Alex and Maddox Osburn and soon to be born, Nixon Carthen; brothers, Welton Carthen of Shawnee, Charles Carthen and wife Earnie Mae of Brooksville, Cecil Carthen of California, Thurman Carthen of Reno, Nevada, and Buck Carthen of Wichita, Kansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Baptist Church in Brookesville with Rev. Lee Oliver officiating. Burial will follow at Brooksville Cemetery.
