Melvin Boyd Parker, 70, of Norman, died Friday, May 1, 2015, at a Norman hospital.

Melvin Boyd Parker, 70, of Norman, died Friday, May 1, 2015, at a Norman hospital.

He was born April 12, 1945, in Shawnee to Boyd E. and Marie (Dixon) Parker.

He attended Shawnee schools and Murray State College.

He was retired from the United States Army.

Melvin enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. His hobbies included the history of rodeoing, horses, and the outdoors. As an American patriot, Melvin was especially proud of his military service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd and Marie Parker, uncle, Fern Parker, and brother, Leon Parker.

Survivors include his daughter, Dema Hansmeyer and her husband, Todd of Norman; grandchildren, Michael Gage Crook, Zachary Eugene, Graclyn Marie, and Eziekiel Todd Hansmeyer; sister, Dema Nell Lee of Phoenix, Arizona; nephew, Curtis and Alicia Parker and their son Aiden of Chico, California; and many other nephews, nieces and other relatives; special friends, who were like brothers, Colen Howell and Donald Pittman; and sister-in-law, Beverly Parker of Topeka, Kansas.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, in the chapel of Walker Funeral Service with Rev. Doug Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
