The body of an 80-year-old of woman was recovered from a partially-submerged vehicle near Macomb Thursday evening.

Emergency responders were called to an area east of U.S. 177 to check a vehicle that was on its side in a flooded area on Harrison Road, off Ruggles Road.

Pottawatomie County Undersheriff Travis Palmer said the area is flooded from waters in that area of the Little River. He said water was deep and swift.

Tecumseh firefighters responded to the scene. To reach the vehicle, crews asked for help from Shawnee firefighters, who brought a boat to the scene.

Shawnee fire crews reached the vehicle and found the woman's body inside, Palmer said. Her name wasn't being released Thursday night as authorities attempted to located and notify any next of kin.

Palmer said that entire area is flooded and it appears the woman ignored barricades and tried to drive through that flooded area.

The state medical examiner will rule on cause of death.
