Shawnee police contacted the FBI Tuesday about the local investigation of two false bomb threats at Shawnee High School.

Shawnee Police Chief Russell Frantz said officers have followed leads as far as possible locally and followed up with the FBI Tuesday morning.

Frantz said several similar bomb threats to schools were reported in various cities across the U.S. on Monday.

He confirmed the two bomb threats at SHS Monday resulted in two evacuations and the early release of students.

Police and K-9s conducted an extensive search of the campus and school buildings, but found nothing suspicious.

Despite the fact that nothing was found, countless rumors and false statements about bombs and guns were abundant in the community and on social media.

Frantz reiterated Tuesday that there were two bomb threats; everything else being circulated on social media was fiction.

School resumed Tuesday with extra officers on campus.
