Richard C. Newell, 91, of Shawnee, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at his home.

Richard C. Newell Sr., 91, of Shawnee, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Walker Funeral Service with Terry Newell and Ray Newell officiating, under the direction of Walker Funeral Service. The family has requested no flowers be sent.

Richard C. Newell Sr. was born Sept. 18, 1924, in NW Seminole County. His parents were G.D. and Sarah (Sealock) Newell.

Richard was drafted into the Army during May 1943. He served in the 101 Airborne Division as a Paratrooper. He completed 21 jumps and was honorably discharged Dec. 19, 1945.

He returned to Seminole County, “footloose and fancy free” and married the best looking girl in Seminole County. Richard married Bette Jean Mallory on March 16, 1946. Of this union, two children were born, Richard (Rick) and Rhonda Jean Newell (deceased).

Richard was a member of Thompson Heights Church of Christ and was a Heartland Hospice Volunteer.

Richard was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Jean Newell, his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of over 69 years, a son, Richard Newell Jr. and wife Charlott Kay, granddaughter Sue Anna Roberts, great-grandsons Tony Newell, Alex Farrell and Jessica and great-great-granddaughter, Lilly Farrell.

He is also survived by Raymond Newell and wife Pat and numerous cousins and nieces and nephews. Special friends, Dale and Sherrie Tipken and Sommer and Ryan Yancey.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2, at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with Terry Newell and Ray Newell officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee.
