Margaret Ann (Lowrey) Alberson, daughter of William Arthur Lowrey and Margaret Leone (Yowell) Lowrey, passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015.

Margaret Ann (Lowrey) Alberson, daughter of William Arthur Lowrey and Margaret Leone (Yowell) Lowrey, passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015.

Ann was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Lufkin, Texas, and moved shortly thereafter to her family home at 525 N. Market in Shawnee with her three younger siblings.

She met a handsome young sailor, James Frank “Al” Alberson Jr., while attending TCU and they were married on March 8, 1946. Their 53-year marriage came to an end with Al’s untimely death on Sept. 1, 1999.

Ann is survived by her younger siblings, Betty Jane Chandler and twin brothers Bill and Charles Lowrey and their wives, DeeAnne and Shirley, and numerous nieces and nephews, many of whom reside here in Shawnee.

Ann is also survived by and was beloved mother to Margaret Jane Clarke (m. Jerry Clarke) of Austin, Texas, and JF Alberson III (m. Tina Morriello) of Eugene, Oregon, and devoted Nana to grandchildren Jacob Addison Clarke and Hannah Louise Alberson.

In her professional life, Ann was a secretary to the Dean of Forestry at the University of Colorado; Mr. Lewis, founding partner of Edson, Lewis, Porter and Haynes, Attorneys, in Topeka, Kansas; Kansas State Legislator Jan Meyers as well as personal secretary to Chuck McAtee during his campaign for the 2nd District Congressional seat of Kansas.

In her private life, Ann was an avid gardener, a dedicated member of her church choir, a gifted tole painter and teacher, a joyful crafter, a talented interior designer, an adventurous traveler and cook and a perpetual organizer of fun!

A celebration of her life will start at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Vintage Venue at 120 N. Broadway. Please bring a light heart and memories to share.
