McLoud Boys

Coach Joshua Laney and the Redskins are looking to leave their 7-18 season from last year behind them. Posting losses in 11 of their first 14 games isn’t something they will be eager to see repeat.

The Boys will be hosting Byng in their opener after falling to them on the road last year to start their season. They will travel to Jones for a game before taking part in the OBU Tournament in Shawnee.

There they will have a good opportunity to see what their opponents are working with, gain some valuable knowledge and what might await them as the season goes on.

McLoud Girls

Coach Doug Armstrong and his girls no doubt remember the results of last season, but they can’t afford to dwell on it.

In order to recover from their 1-19 record the girls will have to work hard and work together as a team, looking back on mistakes without dwelling on them.

They open up their season at home against Byng on Dec. 1, before traveling to Jones a week later.

They then play in the OBU Tournament before hosting Perkins and Harrah to end the first part of their season before winter break.

The girls will return to host Prague on Jan. 5.

Meeker Boys

Returning starters Drew Ellis and Ryan Trevino will be joined by senior newcomer Jake Standlee, who will bring a wealth of athleticism and leadership to the team.

L.J. McKissick and Brett Roach, transfers from North Rock Creek last year, are starting to fit into the system and have motors that don’t stop running on the court, coach Evan Smith said.

The varsity inexperience on the team is a bit of a setback, but the team has cohesion and defense to strengthen that weakness.

They will open with a home rivalry game against Prague on Dec. 1, but the OBU tournament Dec. 10-12 will be an early challenge as well.

Meeker Girls

A lot of new faces will be playing larger roles on this year’s team. Senior Allie Hilburn, junior Torie Jennings and sophomore Ashley Vanschuyver will play significant roles this year after putting in quality time off the bench last season. Senior Sharyn Evans is returning healthy as a guard and junior Taylor Morrow and sophomore Cheyenne Kauley are expected to provide a spark off the bench.

Morgan Hammontree and Allison McCutcheon will be the only two returning as starters leaving the team lacking in experience. What they lack in varsity knowledge they make up for in effort – hungry for wins and improvement.

Their opener against Prague will be a good early challenge in what is shaping up to be a difficult season.
