Martinez scores double-double; Lady Savages take district
The Tecumseh girls earned their second straight win Saturday night as Jasmine Martinez earned a double-double to take down Star Spencer 54-49 in the district championship. The win was a big one for the girls who were suffering from a 6-17 record prior to the game and had failed to put out two wins in a row previously throughout the season.
Franki Hull put on a strong solo performance for Tecumseh as the only scorer in the first but Martinez led the team with 23 points shooting 11-of-12 from the line and brought down 11 rebounds to earn a double-double.
Hull had 12, Amanda Haslam nine, and Taylor Williams eight. Haslam shot 9-of-14 from the line and Williams led the team with 16 rebounds.
The girls won in large thanks to their second quarter performance.
Leading 11-10 after one, the Lady Savages pushed out a 13-4 run to give them a 24-14 advantage at halftime that would pay off big after Star Spencer made a 16-12 run in the third.
The Lady Savages will play Broken Bow Thursday at Broken Bow in the first round of regionals.
