The Shawnee News-Star received a first place award for best news website for content provided on

The award was presented Saturday night during the annual Associated Press/Oklahoma News Executives awards banquet held in Tulsa.

The News-Star's website, on average, receives about 350,000 page views each month.

The News-Star and members of its staff received four other awards in the state competition.

The News-Star placed fourth in the General Excellence category, as determined by judges looking at three entire print editions on dates selected by the contest committee.

Page Designer Tina Bridenstine earned a third place award in Page 1 deadline layout for three front pages she designed in 2015.

Photographer Ed Blochowiak took fourth place in sports photography for a photo of a saddle bronc rider at the International Finals Youth Rodeo.

Managing Editor Kim Morava won fourth place in spot news reporting for a story on the search for the remains of a missing Shawnee woman.
