Dock directive stagnant as City Commission gets up to speed
Recently, Shawnee City Commissioners heard an administrative report regarding the adaptive kayak dock at Shawnee Twin Lakes. City Attorney Joe Vorndran offered the report, saying since the topic has repeatedly come up over the course of several commission meetings, he would present an overview.

SSC baseball coach honored for 200th career win
Seminole State College Head Baseball Coach Mack Chambers was recognized for his 200th career win at the helm of the Trojans on April 7 at Lloyd Simmons Field. During a pregame ceremony, Trojan sophomores Kendall McDowell of Dallas, Texas, and Wilfred Gonzalez of Miami, Florida, presented Chambers with a commemorative engraved bat signed by the 2025 Trojan Baseball Team.

December Students of the Month named
[EDITOR'S NOTE: Two students are being honored for each month from September to April of the 2024-25 school year, named as nominees for the Best of Tri-County Area Preps Student of the Year award, which will be announced at the News-Star's Preps gala on June 3.] Elle Barger and Jalee Meyers have been named The Shawnee News-Star and CPN Students of the Month for December and are now finalists for the Student of the Year award. Barger is a senior at North Rock Creek High School and Meyer is a senior at Tecumseh High School.
North Rock Creek wins two over Am-Po, Shawnee
North Rock Creek hosted Shawnee and Am-Po in a slow pitch round robin at the Ball Fields at Firelake Monday. The Lady Cougars won both of their games and Shawnee dropped a pair in the program’s first year to compete in slow pitch softball.
