Asher goes 1-2 in Battiest Tournament

BATTIEST – The Asher Indians opened play in the Battiest Tournament by outlasting Kiowa 17-15 on Thursday but dropped their next two games to Valliant 9-4 on Friday and Boswell 6-1 on Saturday. Asher 17, Kiowa 15 (Thursday) Raygan Kuhlman registered a 4-for-5 performance form the plate with three doubles, three runs batted in, four runs scored and a walk as the Indians pounded out 12 hits and overcame four errors.

Friday firestorm: Devastating wildfires impact Shawnee area, state

With wildfire dangers continuing this week, Tri-County area residents and firefighters are on alert after Friday's wildfires impacted much of the state, including several wildfires in the Shawnee and Pottawatomie County area. The Shawnee Fire Department and all Pottawatomie County and area fire departments ask residents to refrain from igniting any type of fires and to be extra cautious this week to avoid another situation like Friday.
