SHAWNEE — More than 80 residents from the Shawnee area gathered Monday night for a CommonSense Club meeting hosted by Oklahoma United to discuss State Question 836, the proposed ballot initiative to replace Oklahoma’s closed primary system with an open primary system. The larger-than-expected turnout at First United Bank led organizers to bring in extra seating to accommodate the engaged crowd.

After a lengthy discussion and multiple motions, Shawnee City Commissioners ended up voting 5-2 to renew an annual contract with Latham Consulting Group and Dunnington Consulting for legislative consulting services, as it has for the past three years.
SEMINOLE - Bryce Cowns had a lot to celebrate Saturday night. He and his teammates beat a great Chandler Lions team 52-46 to claim the Route 66 Conference Tournament Championship.
