Beavers sparks Shawnee to 28-7 win over Durant

By Kent Bush Sports Correspondent Deetrick Beavers was pulled off the defensive side of the ball this week so he could focus on his offensive effort. It’s hard to argue with that decision after he accounted for more than 200 yards of offense and three touchdowns in a 28-7 win over Durant. “They took me off defense to have me only on offense to move the ball down the field,” said Beavers, who was also named Homecoming King before the game. “And that’s what we did. We came out strong. The O-line was moving people. Everybody was rolling.” The defense was 26 seconds from a shutout Friday night. After building a 28-0 lead, they allowed Durant to score a late touchdown. Dace Shaw helped lead the defensive effort with two interceptions. One he returned to the Durant 15-yard line. Shawnee’s first score Friday night followed a Williams punt that pinned the Lions inside their own 10-yard line. When Durant tried to run the ball out of […]

Multi-County Grand Jury finds pervasive mismanagement, waste in Governor's pandemic relief funds for education

OKLAHOMA CITY – A Multi-County Grand Jury investigation of the Governor’s Emergency Educational Relief (GEER) fund found significant mismanagement and misspending of millions of dollars intended to reduce disruption to the education of students impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the Grand Jury found no instances of criminal action or willful corruption, the jurors’ report characterized the handling of grant money and utter lack of internal controls as “irresponsible, disappointing, and indefensible.” Attorney General Gentner Drummond called for the Grand Jury probe shortly after his January 2023 dismissal of a frivolous lawsuit the Governor had brought against ClassWallet, a Florida vendor that was the digital platform for two GEER initiatives heavily criticized by federal and state auditors.
