SHAWNEE, Okla. – Ahead of the 2024 International Finals Youth Rodeo (IFYR), the organization has announced the roster for the six-day event, featuring over 1,100 entries from 32 states and provinces. This diverse group of participants will gather in Shawnee, Oklahoma, marking the 32nd year of the IFYR. The event, set to take place July 7-12, will be one of the richest youth rodeos in the sport, paying upwards of $320,000.
This week began the new Fiscal Year for the City of Shawnee; City Commissioners approved its new budget in June. In April the proposed Fiscal Year 2024-25 Budget was presented to Shawnee City Commissioners and a public hearing was held regarding the proposal at the City Commission meeting in May.
The Kickapoo Nation of Oklahoma took an initial big step on June 27, celebrating a ‘soft opening’ of the first library for the Kickapoo Tribe. A grant from IMLS provided funds for the project. With the assistance of retired McLoud Librarian and Library Consultant, Tassey Beeson and Library Associate Laura Clark, the process of shelving books and setting up electronic systems was coordinated with the Kickapoo Business Committee.
