Danielle Lomeli has been named Nurse of the Month for August as part of a program sponsored by The Shawnee News-Star and the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. Lomeli has been an RN for 14 years, working all of those at SSM Health St Anthony Hospital - Shawnee.
Oklahoma CareerTech has opened nominations for the next class of inductees into the Oklahoma CareerTech Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame honors Oklahomans for extraordinary contributions and leadership roles that advance the broader cause of career and technology education, said Gina Hubbard, Oklahoma CareerTech director of statewide outreach.
Hey there Shawnee! Each year during Welcome Week, incoming OBU students go out into the community to participate in various service projects. This program is called Serve Shawnee, and the Parks and Recreation Department is happy to take part each August!
Back in May City of Shawnee staff proposed to the Shawnee City Commission that it was time to update the status of its downtown TIF Districts review committee – only the item has repeatedly been deferred ever since. This week the board once again voted to push back to re-establish the advisory panel after Mayor Eric Stephens opened the item for business with a motion to defer.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB) is inviting students across the state to participate in its annual Litter Education Program contests, which encourage creativity, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. Finalists will be honored at the Student Environmental Champions Awards in March 2026, and high school and college winners will each receive a $1,200 scholarship.The UnCapped Art Contest invites elementary students to collect plastic bottle caps and transform them into works of art, accompanied by a short essay describing what they learned.
Last week, I had the privilege of joining several of my legislative colleagues at Oklahoma State University to celebrate a truly historic moment for the school and the state. We joined university leaders, students and veterinarians to officially mark a new, $250 million state investment in OSU’s veterinary medicine program, the largest state appropriation in the university’s history.
