Shawnee City Commission defers appointments again

Back in May City of Shawnee staff proposed to the Shawnee City Commission that it was time to update the status of its downtown TIF Districts review committee – only the item has repeatedly been deferred ever since. This week the board once again voted to push back to re-establish the advisory panel after Mayor Eric Stephens opened the item for business with a motion to defer.

Oklahoma students invited to join Keep Oklahoma Beautiful's Litter Education contests

OKLAHOMA CITY – Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB) is inviting students across the state to participate in its annual Litter Education Program contests, which encourage creativity, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. Finalists will be honored at the Student Environmental Champions Awards in March 2026, and high school and college winners will each receive a $1,200 scholarship.The UnCapped Art Contest invites elementary students to collect plastic bottle caps and transform them into works of art, accompanied by a short essay describing what they learned.

Last week, I had the privilege of joining several of my legislative colleagues at Oklahoma State University to celebrate a truly historic moment for the school and the state. We joined university leaders, students and veterinarians to officially mark a new, $250 million state investment in OSU’s veterinary medicine program, the largest state appropriation in the university’s history.
