Homeless shelter's cooling system breaks down

Caught in the middle of the summer season, with temperatures hovering in the upper 90s -- sometimes up to 100 degrees -- day after day, Shawnee Rescue Mission is putting out an urgent call for help to make the heat bearable for the homeless people the nonprofit strives to care for. “Both our air conditioning units have gone out this year, they are both over 20 years old and cannot be fixed and must be replaced,” Shawnee Rescue Mission’s founder and director Glenn Blankenship’s post reads.
