Zoo to celebrate Asian Elephant Awareness Month and World Elephant Day in August

Every month is a big month for elephants, but August is gearing up to be bigger than ever at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden with both Asian Elephant Awareness Month and World Elephant Day, Saturday, August 2, 2025. “We’re all still riding high on the arrival of Xerxes, the first Asian elephant bull born at the Zoo,” said Rachel Boyd, OKC Zoo’s Curator of Elephants.

Education: Hendry of Shawnee earns degree from University of Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, AR - The University of Arkansas honored its most recent graduating class with a series of spring commencement ceremonies at Bud Walton Arena and Barnhill Arena, and the School of Law's ceremony at the Fayetteville Town Center. Scott Hendry of Shawnee graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy and was among more than 5,500 graduates earning a degree and a spot for their name on Senior Walk.

BBB issues warning about surge in vehicle purchase scams

Better Business Bureau® Serving Central Oklahoma (BBB) is warning consumers to exercise extreme caution when shopping for vehicles online, particularly through Facebook Marketplace. Over the last month, the BBB office has received more than 20 calls from individuals who were targeted by fraudulent vehicle listings, many of which involved classic cars, exotic vehicles or high value used cars.
