Weekly update: Economic laws, Part 2

As part of my ongoing updates on the new laws passed during this last legislative session, this week I’d like to continue to highlight several new efforts aimed at boosting economic development and expanding Oklahoma’s role in film and entertainment. These measures follow other legislation I’ve shared in recent columns and are intended to bring more investment, activity and opportunity to our state.

  Nearly 400 years ago, a devout Christian fought against the despair that had every right to take down anyone who’d lost his father and mother before he was 15 years old, whose school was nearly shut down by the Black Death, who was fired from the congregation he served because he was too committed to God’s Word, whose wife and all but one child died before he did, on top of which was the constant mourning and funerals a pastor of a church had to do during the ravages of the Thirty Years’ War and the bubonic plague. Yet, rather than giving in to despair, Paul Gerhardt wrote a powerful hymn that still lifts the hearts and souls of many Christians around the world, today.
