First United Bank celebrates 5 years of United Acts of Kindness Day

SHAWNEE – First United Bank announces the fifth anniversary of United Acts of Kindness Day, a movement that has grown exponentially from its humble beginnings to become a nationwide phenomenon. This year, on February 14, 2025, the bank aims to inspire 1,000,000 acts of kindness, marking a significant milestone in its mission to elevate 10 million lives by 2030.

Shawnee Little Theatre's production of 'Misery' opens Feb. 7

The mastermind behind many of today’s most acclaimed thrillers, Stephen King, comes to Shawnee Little Theatre with a stage version of "Misery" from his best-selling book and acclaimed movie. Adapted and written for the stage by Academy Award winning author William Goldman, the play tells the story of a former nurse who kidnaps a romance novelist after he kills off her favorite character, Misery Chastain, in his latest book.

SSC reports success with GEAR UP Dreamcatcher Grant

Seminole State College has released its annual progress report on the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) Dreamcatcher grant, which concluded in 2024 after seven years. The federal grant, awarded in 2017, provided critical college readiness, career exploration and academic achievement support to approximately 1,000 area students annually.
