Shawnee Public Schools installs Buddy Benches to foster friendship and inclusion

Shawnee Public Schools is proud to announce the installation of new “Buddy Benches” across its campuses, thanks to a partnership with Rose Rock Habitat for Humanity, 2024-25 Leadership Shawnee class, and the generous support of local sponsors. Designed to foster friendship, inclusion, and connection, these bright red benches offer a unique and welcoming space where students can find new friends and reach out to others.The intentionally red benches stand out on each school campus, signaling a place where students can sit when they are seeking companionship or support.

Tecumseh High School educator participates in The Rural Experience in America Project

The National Council for History Education (NCHE) announces that Sarah Pearcy recently participated in the 2024 Rural Experience in America, Community Civics through Historical Inquiry project funded by a grant from the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources program. Since 2006, Congress has appropriated funds to the Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) program to establish and fund a consortium of organizations working to incorporate “the digital collections of the Library of Congress into educational curricula.” Each year, members of the TPS Consortium support tens of thousands of learners to build knowledge, engagement and critical thinking skills with items from the library’s collections.
