Community Renewal of Pottawatomie County’s first go at operating Shawnee’s favorite spooky-fest is a wrap. From a mummy-wrapping contest to costume competitions, a carnival, Trick-or-Treating, a DJ and lots of food and retail vendors, the fall event – newly named Monsters on Main (formerly Boo on Bell) – entertained residents of all ages.

Shawnee Little Theatre’s production of Irving Berlin’s :”White Christmas” will perform at the community theatre November 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18 and 19 at 7:30pm. Also, November 13 at 2:00pm. Based on the classic 1954 movie, the stage musical features several additional songs from the Irving Berlin catalog of classics.
Halloween is just around the corner, so along with trickor- treating, fall festivals and other events, there will be many dressing up in their favorite costumes. Plan to capture photos of the little ones or pets in costume and then share them with the News-Star and they could be featured in an upcoming edition. Shawnee Fire Department Training Chief David Underwood, on Friday, received the Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition in recognition of outstanding and invaluable service to the community. Underwood completed four years of coursework in the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program.
Fall and winter holiday celebrations often include festive eats and treats—Halloween and candy are synonymous, as are Thanksgiving and turkey. As the holiday season approaches, it’s important to remember that increased candy and other holiday foods in the home may be cause for paw-se for pet parents.
Seminole State College student organizations and offices will host a campus and community “Trick or Treat” event Thursday night, Oct. 27, in Henderson Park on campus.
