OG&E crews deployed to Florida

SHAWNEE - OG&E deployed 95 line restoration personnel to Florida on Monday to assist with power restoration as Hurricane Ian approaches the United States. The storm gained strength Monday morning and is projected to pass the west-central coast of Florida midweek.

Google’s new language app features Potawatomi language

The historic Potawatomi language has a strong shot at survival thanks to Woolaroo, Google’s new language app. The app is a Google Arts & Culture experiment that uses machine learning to preserve endangered languages. The software enables users to scan objects with their phone and receive a translation in real time. The Potawatomi language, Bodéwadmimwen, is the first Oklahoma tribal language to be featured on the app.

Shawnee’s T-shirt cannon is a learning device for Robotics Club

Shawnee’s infamous T-Shirt cannon is actually a learning device for members of the SHS Robotics Club. By utilizing the T-Shirt Cannon, students are able to learn all of the different components of a robot before they begin building their own robot from scratch. They also will learn and grow their robotics skills as well as compete in events this spring.

SSC Hosts Constitution Day Event

Seminole State College hosted its annual Constitution Day event on Sept. 20 at the Enoch Kelly Haney Center on campus. This year’s event featured Constitutional Jeopardy, a trivia game testing students’ knowledge. The trivia game was hosted by event organizer and Social Sciences Vice Chair Jeffrey Christiansen. Attendees also had the opportunity to register to vote at a station set up by the SSC Student Government Association.

Local student named to 2021-2022 UAF honors list Izabel Poblano of Shawnee was recently named to the Fall 2021 and spring 2022 deans’ list at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The lists recognize students’ outstanding academic achievements.
