The joys of fall gardening

In the face of rising food costs and increasing shortages, it’s a good idea to consider extending our gardens into fall. Historically, early spring and fall gardening are more satisfying, in that the weather is nicer, and our harvests are still rewarding.

CareerTech awards $4.5 million in lottery grants, scholarships

The Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education has awarded more than $4.5 million in lottery funds. CareerTech awarded $2,064,816 in grants to 26 technology centers for the 2022-23 school year and $2,056,516 in grants to K-12 school districts for the 2022-23 school year, along with 388 scholarships worth a total of $400,150 for the 2021-22 school year.

July 21 The Third Thursday Poetry Reading will feature a video of the late Jim Spurr reading his poetry, followed by the open mike portion of the evening when members of the audience can read their own or others’ poetry.

Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum hires new executive director, associate director

Longtime Executive Director of the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum, Marci Donaho, retired on July 15. Her successor is Eileen Castle, formerly of the Science Museum Oklahoma and Director of the Oklahoma Museum Network. Assisting the new Executive Director will be Tonya Ricks of Shawnee, who was employed at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art for 16 years. She will serve as the Associate Director.
