Oklahoma Historical Society to host annual Juneteenth celebration

The Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS) will celebrate Juneteenth with “Music through the Ages” on Thursday, June 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Oklahoma History Center. Dr. Donnie Nero will serve as the emcee for several educational presentations and musical performances representing Oklahoma’s unique African American roots. Light refreshments will be served. The Oklahoma History Center is located at 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive in Oklahoma City.

OKC Zoo celebrates World Oceans Day

In celebration of World Oceans Day 2022, the Oklahoma City Zoo and Bob Moore Subaru are coming together to make waves for ocean conservation. This globally recognized day provides a unique opportunity to learn about, raise awareness for and conserve our blue planet. The theme for 2022 is “One Ocean, One Climate, One Future – Together” in support of a global movement to create a healthy ocean with abundant wildlife and ensure our planet’s lands, waters and ocean are protected.

SSC Upward Bound programs receive grant renewal

Seminole State College recently received notification from the U.S. Department of Education of the renewal of two federal Upward Bound grants. Together, Upward Bound I and Upward Bound II will receive over $3.4 million in grant money over the next five years, beginning in September. The grants will provide the institution $696,235 annually, with UB I receiving $398,634 per year to serve 77 participants and UB II receiving $297,601 per year to serve 52 participants.

Bethel Lower Elementary has announced Superintendent’s and Principal’s Honor Rolls. The Superintendent’s Honor Roll included: First grade: Hendrix Barnum, Gunner Billins, Alyssa Briley, Colin Burkhart, Carson Campbell, Bentley Clark, Scarlet Foote, Ryatt Harris, Nash Herron, Emilee Klippstein, Boston Ledgerwood, Annabelle Lee, Ella Lee, Addie Liggett, Vivian Ma, Piper Marlow, Joshua Pankowsky, Rylee Reeves, Bristol Robbins, Chloe Robertson, Gentry Stith, Jack Steward, Zayne Taylor and Sadie Wellman.
