Puerto Rico women have better access to maternity care than those in Oklahoma

Fifty-one percent of the state of Oklahoma is classified as a maternity care desert, or an areawithout a single birthing facility or obstetric clinician. This statistic makes Oklahoma’s rate ofmaternity care deserts the third highest in the nation, according to a report released in Septemberby the March of Dimes.Alysia Davis, a March of Dimes national director for collective impact, said what is happening inOklahoma is similar across the country in that it takes too long for mothers to access care.
