The Shawnee News-Star has opened nominations for its annual Helping Hands Awards, formerly known as Angels Among Us. Helping Hands are all around us – those who go above and beyond to make a difference in the world around them and lend a helping hand to others who need it.
Shawnee City Commissioners have adopted an Engineering Design Manual (EDM), which will set a standard of engineering-related requirements, processes and associated fees. In September Shawnee City Director of Engineering Seth Barkhimer offered an overview of the city’s proposal.
The Seminole State College Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institutions (NASNTI) federal grant program was recently awarded a supplemental grant, totaling $157,500. The funding will support an array of initiatives at the college, including mental health services, faculty training and enhancements to the Computer Science curriculum.
On Veterans Day every year the Shawnee community honors its veterans during a special service at the memorial at Woodland Veterans Park in downtown Shawnee. This year held an added benefit, as progress at the Pottawatomie County Veterans Educational Museum was unveiled just after the ceremony.
SHAWNEE - What happens when you mix creativity, imagination, and a little bit of alien inspiration? A fun and colorful art collaboration between Shawnee High School art students and 4th and 5th graders from Horace Mann Elementary! In a one-of-a-kind project, Horace Mann students drew their aliens, and SHS art students transformed those drawings into incredible clay sculptures, bringing their intergalactic creations to life. The journey began when Horace Mann students tapped into their creativity, sketching unique and playful aliens.
