Tuesday was a big day for Shawnee residents as voters picked their favorite representatives for four seats on the City Commission. Two of the seats now have winners, while the other two seats will be decided through runoffs in August.
As of Tuesday, at least some of the Senate and House elections have now been decided. However, one race is teetering on the edge of a majority -- too close to tell yet whether it is won or if it must go to a runoff election; another race that's been on the back-burner is set for the General Election in November; but voting for the rest appears to be over. Seats up for grabs during this election cycle for area legislative offices include local Senate District 17, and House Districts 26, 27 and 28.

The Oklahoma Aerospace and Aeronautics Commission met on May 29, 2024, to discuss and approve significant initiatives aimed at bolstering the state’s aviation and aerospace infrastructure. STROUD -- An open house was held Friday to celebrate the new surgery center and completion of facility renovations. Rural Wellness Stroud Inc. as owner and Avem Health Partners as management have each made major investments in Stroud Hospital together totaling more than $5 million dollars over the past three years.

After operating for a year in temporary facilities while its clinic was being rebuilt after the 2023 Shawnee tornadoes, the new Northside Veterinary Hospital is open and staff are settled into daily operations at the new building.
While voter registration has averaged around 40,000 within Pottawatomie County over the past 20 years, party affiliation numbers among Democrats and Republicans have shifted the majority. Also, voter registration in the state is on the uptick. However, neither of these trends appear to be spurring residents to actually head to the polls on election day.
