Shawnee City Commission defers appointments again

Back in May City of Shawnee staff proposed to the Shawnee City Commission that it was time to update the status of its downtown TIF Districts review committee – only the item has repeatedly been deferred ever since. This week the board once again voted to push back to re-establish the advisory panel after Mayor Eric Stephens opened the item for business with a motion to defer.

Shawnee Public Schools updates bag sizes in event safety policy

Shawnee Public Schools has announced an update to its event safety policy, effective immediately for the 2025-2026 school year. The policy applies to all Shawnee Public Schools events, regardless of location or grade level, including athletic competitions, fine arts performances, assemblies, and other activities across the district, from elementary to high school.

Oklahoma Opioid Abatement Board awards $16.6M to combat state's opioid crisis

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Opioid Abatement Board has recently awarded a total of $16.6 million in grants to communities and school districts across the state as part of ongoing efforts to address the state's opioid crisis. The funding includes $12.9 million distributed to 31 cities, counties and public trusts, along with $3.7 million awarded to 16 school districts earlier this month.
