Sewer main break spurs Commission to OK up to $75K fix

This week, city leaders addressed some unforeseen new business during its Shawnee Municipal Authority meeting; Public Works Director Brad Schmidt alerted the City Commission to an emergency that was discovered over the weekend regarding a sewer main break that would need immediate action, but also commission approval, due to expected cost. Schmidt said staff was called out to the area of Northridge and Beckley, confirming there was a compromised sewer main under a creek crossing.

Voter registration deadline, absentee ballot deadlines announced for August 12 election

Friday July 18, 2025, is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the August 12, 2025, Mid-America Special Proposition, Election Board Secretary Patricia Carter said. Carter said that persons who are United States Citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 17 ½ years old are eligible to apply for voter registration.
